BUSH CASTLE
Castle with fine examples of militia architecture, including an open-throated watchtower, arches and gunboats
The first mention of this castle dates back to the year 975: it was then simply a motte castrale, using the natural position of a rocky spur. During the Hundred Years' War, it took on its polygonal shape. The Romanesque part dates from the 13th century. Modified in the 15th and 17th centuries, many parts have been restored. The curtain walls date from the 15th century, as does one of the towers that we visit. There are beautiful illustrations of military architecture including a watchtower with open throat but also the archways and gunports.
