PERSIAN CHURCH
A real treasure in the eyes of Roman art lovers, a church located in Espalion, built around the year 1000
Built around the year 1000, this little-known monument is a real treasure for lovers of Romanesque art. Built in pink sandstone, the church of Perse has a curious bell tower and a superb sculpted portal. Its tympanum, even if it remains more modest than that of the abbey church of Sainte-Foy, deserves more than a glance. Much has been said about the naïve scenes it presents: Last Judgement, Apocalypse, Pentecost? There is a joyful disorder of characters. The curious will note that due to lack of space, the apostles are only eleven.
