GRAND CAUSSES REGIONAL NATURE PARK
Natural park with very specific and valuable landscapes and a particularly rich fauna and flora.
Since 1995, the Grands Causses Regional Nature Park has been striving to protect and enhance a unique natural and cultural heritage, while allowing the territory's inhabitants and workers to maintain their activities. The Park's Charter, which is revised every 15 years, is a true code of good conduct, and all of its missions are based on respect for sustainable development. The territory is divided into causses and gorges, mountains and forests. The landscapes are very specific and of great value, as are the particularly rich fauna and flora (more than 2,000 species including the cardabella, the symbol of the Grands Causses). The park, which extends over 93 communes in the department, is also an important living area, with nearly 64,000 inhabitants. More than 3,000 farms and craft businesses dot the area and bear witness to a dynamic in terms of employment and the maintenance of traditions. One of the most emblematic is agropastoralism, a form of pastoralism that combines herding on grass-rich pastures with the production of hay and cereals on the farm to supplement the sheep's diet. The Regional Natural Park of the Grands Causses is also committed to preserving and enhancing its heritage, supporting social progress and encouraging economic innovation in its vast territory. The park can be explored through simple walks but also through a host of activities (fishing, rafting, hang gliding, canoeing...).
