Museum housing the most important and oldest collection of statue-menhirs in France, to be discovered in Rodez.
The museum's collection comprises some 25,000 pieces, donated since 1836 by numerous generous donors. A good 1,000 of these are now on display in the three-storey mansion. Among the collection's masterpieces are the Dame de Saint-Sernin and her acolytes: statue-menhirs, most of them discovered in Aveyron and sculpted in the3rd millennium BC to represent "life-size" man. Other treasures include a 2nd-century bust of Marcus Aurelius and a Gallo-Roman horse head.
