On display at the Musée Fenaille in Rodez, the Dame de Saint-Sernin is a megalithic statue discovered in 1888 in southern Aveyron. It is considered one of the finest female representations of European megalithic art. Dating from around 3000 BC, this anthropomorphic statue is carved in sandstone. Its fine craftsmanship and rich attributes (necklace, pendant, belt, dress and hair) testify to the skill of the period and the importance attached to female representation in prehistoric societies.
