PUPPET AREA

We all have Pinocchio, Polichinelle or Guignol in mind when we think of the word "puppet". In the age of digital and computer graphics, one would think that the articulated figurine with wooden heads and fabric, pulled by threads, or with rods would be obsolete. However, this is not the case. After all, Yoda, the Jedi master of the famous Star Wars saga, is a 66-cm-high, modern puppet. They have always made young and old dream on all continents, since time immemorial. They occupy a place on the small screen or in artistic creations, and integrate the world of multimedia. Saint-Affrique has a collection of five hundred pieces from all over the world, allowing visitors to discover the wide range of artistic practice: shadow theatre, string puppets, girdle puppets, animated forms... The place is unique in Occitania and the occasional spotlights on puppets from one part of the world follow one another from one year to the next. From 15 June 2019, China will be honoured.
