A noble residence, Mélac was built in the early 14th century by the Lords of Gozon, a large family of Hospitallers. Mélac, on the circuit of Hospitaller sites, remains an essential witness to the architecture of the Sud-Rouergue, with its inner courtyard, one of the finest in the region, its three-storey domed Renaissance tower, its pink sandstone chimney and the 14th-century double-bay, rib-crossed guardroom. The site was awarded a special prize by the Jury of Vieilles Maisons Françaises for its overall restoration.
