PREFECTURE
Visit the Auch prefecture, an building built on the site of the former archbishop's palace
The building's current structure dates from the 18th century. Built on the site of the former archbishop's palace (12thcentury ), it backs onto the north flank of the cathedral and stands out thanks to its classical facade with Corinthian fluted pilasters. This superb building can only be visited on Heritage Days. Its French-style garden was once famous for a succulent variety of pear: the Auch pear, so famous that it is depicted in the cathedral's stained-glass windows. Archbishops used to sell them as far away as Poland!
