HENRI IV HOUSE
This house epitomizes the transition from medieval spiral staircases to the straight banisters typical of the century
It is not the house itself that is remarkable, but its staircase. The form and quality of its workmanship make this listed historic site an exceptional work. The staircase alone summarizes the transition period between the spiral staircases of the Middle Ages and the straight banisters typical of the 16th century. Its ashlar base and wooden arches are visible from the inner courtyard. For the record, Henri de Navarre, the future king Henri IV, stayed in this house in 1578 with Catherine de Medici, the future queen Margot.
