THE POSTERLES
La pousterle auscitaine is a steep medieval alleyway, sometimes with staircases, built in the century in Auch
The Auscitaine pousterle refers to a steep alleyway sometimes fitted with stairs. These picturesque medieval alleys allowed the inhabitants of the fortified town to get water from the banks of the Gers. Built in the 14th century during the development of the town centre, they are the occasion for a beautiful and dizzying stroll. The town has five pousterles that link the upper and lower town: the Pousterle du Nord, the Pousterle de Las Oumettos (the little elms), the Pousterle des Couloumats (the pigeons), the Pousterle de l'Est and the Vieille Pousterle.
