ABBAYE CISTERCIENNE SAINTE-MARIE DE BOULAUR
Unusual place of welcome, prayer and peace located in a pleasant countryside
Sainte-Marie Priory was founded in 1140 by Pétronille de Chemillé, an abbess of Fontevraud, in response to the wishes of the widow of the Count of Astarac. Destroyed in part during the Wars of Religion, it was rebuilt in the 12th and 18th centuries. The monastery is aggregated to the order of Cîteaux and raised to the rank of abbey in 1990. The Cistercians make raw milk cheese, pâtés and jams. It is an unusual place of welcome, prayer and peace, in the heart of a pleasant countryside.
