THE DOMUS OF CIEUTAT - INTERPRETATION CENTRE
Visit a remarkable urban aristocratic residence with rich floor decoration in Eauze.
Between 2001 and 2012 excavations were carried out in Eauze within a 20 ha archaeological reserve. They brought to light the remains of adomus. This peristyle house would have been built in the 3rd century on a surface of 1600m². A few years later, around the year 350, the owner would have decided to enlarge it to bring the built surface to 2700m². Slightly elevated in relation to the streets, the house enjoys a dominant position in the aristocratic district in which it was built. It is organized around two peristyle courtyards entirely turned around its gardens. It has a small private bathing area and a large reception room. The care taken by the successive owners in the decoration of the house, in particular in the floors and walls of the reception rooms, probably marks the will to show their power and their wealth. The domus is bordered along its northern and eastern facades by porticoes or covered walkways. An interpretation center has taken possession of the old Eauze station, at the entrance to the archaeological site. This space allows the visitor to discover the extent of the ancient city of Elusa through a modern and playful scenography and transports the visitor to the heart of urban and rural life in the Gallo-Roman period. Domus de Cieutat, villa de Séviac and archaeological museum are grouped under the banner of ELUSA, Ancient Capital. From mid-2023, a new excavation campaign will be launched.

Rien a voir avec la villa de seviac mais un bon complément d'informations qui se finalise avec le musée du trésor d'elusa. On a passé une très bonne journée sur les trois sites.
