LES IRIS DE LAYMONT
The Laymont irises make up one of Europe's largest collections of bearded irises
One of the jewels of the Savès region. Les Iris de Laymont is one of Europe's largest collections of bearded irises: miniature, intermediate and large, with numerous varieties of botanical irises, historical irises from the 19th and early 20th centuries, and modern irises from the 1940s to 2019 (French, European, American and Australian). This collection will reopen to visitors (free of charge) in 2024, after a number of difficult years of poor flowering due to bad weather. Don't miss it! Peak flowering of the large garden iris varies according to each year's weather conditions, but generally takes place around May 10. Open house dates are indicated in April, about a week before and a week after peak flowering. Les Iris de Laymont is not just a conservatory or a grower; this world-renowned professional is above all a creator who is very involved in the national botanical society dedicated to irises. We owe him new hybridized iris varieties every year. Bulbs can be purchased from our partner nurseries. And if you're lucky enough to bump into the owner, he's a passionate iris enthusiast who'll fill in all the gaps in your knowledge of irises, their history and cultivation. There's no doubt that you, too, will fall in love with bulbs and transplants, and why not hybridize them to produce floral marvels! But that's another story.
