ECOCERT
Ecocert was created in 1991. Its objective is simple: to defend and promote organic farming through its certification and the mention "Product from organic farming". Ecocert is therefore both a registered trademark and one of the main French certification bodies for AB-labelled products. A producer, processor, independent restaurateur or restaurant chain can be labelled AB by this body by making the request followed by numerous controls. Of course, their professional practices are scrutinized to ensure that the strict rules of the organic farming charter are respected. At the same time, Ecocert has been heavily involved in drafting French and European regulations on organic farming. The organisation regularly collaborates with the Ministry of Agriculture, INAO (Institut national de l'origine et de la qualité) and the European Commission to support the development of organic farming. Ecocert has become an essential organization for both professionals and consumers. The organization certifies, on the national territory, about 65% of all organic producers and 60% of processors. Nevertheless, the company maintains its independence by developing its own charter useful for product certification. In 2013, the Ecocert label "En Cuisine" was born. It is aimed at the catering industry and aims to encourage and promote the use of organic and local products in canteen menus. In addition, in 2017, Ecocert opened its first regional office in Charente-Maritime, in Saint-Jean-d'Angély. Today, with its expertise in organic farming and in line with its commitment, Ecocert has chosen to extend its activity more broadly to serve the environment in general, by developing its own specifications for the certification of products, systems and services. This is to encourage all economic actors to adopt responsible practices for the preservation of the environment.
Ecocert has 800 employees in France and abroad (mainly women!) and is divided into five companies:
Ecocert SA: the parent company, which brings together the group's support functions.
Ecocert France SAS: subsidiary dedicated to the certification of organic farming in France.
Ecocert Greenlife SAS: subsidiary dedicated to the certification of eco-products (cosmetics, textiles, detergents, home fragrances).
Ecocert Environnement SAS: dedicated to the control and certification of environmental management systems, carbon projects, environmental labelling, ecological land management and sustainable development.
Ecocert Expert Consulting: subsidiary dedicated to training, support and expertise
