MONT-D'ASTARAC
In the 930 s, it was Armagnac's first capital, and this flamboyant past offers a radiant charisma. Historic site par excellence, Mont-d'Astarac has a heritage where visitors and enthusiasts lose any notion of time, caught up by its alleys that do not end up telling what was. On the feudal motte, still visible, was the castle of Arnaud Garcia, heir of Armagnac County, through its filiation with the illustrious Garcia Sanché says the Curved. A ditch protected the village and, at the end of the fifteenth century, a door was brought to complement this defence. The seigneuries follow, leaving their remains until the Revolution. Despite its annual fairs, its decline was announced, but it was without counting the fascinating discovery of murals dating back to 1450 in the church dedicated to Saint Laurent, built late th century. In 1968, the village returned with its hours of glory and these episodes of Passion made it a high tourist place. On the vault, the evangelists and the Church's doctors in medallions surround the throne of grace. The decor of the walls owes its interest in a representation of the tree of Jesse. In the East, under the Christ of the last Judgment, a Resurrection of the dead shows the elected representatives to heaven. At the bottom of the next wall, a dazzling depiction of hell details the torments of the damned.

And it is back in the church that you dip back in time because you can admire superb wall paintings of the Middle Ages (1490) a Tree Jessé and a Madonna And Child.
