ST. AUGUSTUS CHURCH
An imposing church in Mouchan, dedicated to Saint Austrégésile, with some of the oldest elements dating back to the early century
Dedicated to Saint Austrégésile (6th-century bishop of Bourges), this imposing church is a listed Cluniac site. It is one of the oldest in the département, with its tower dating from the early 11th century. It would have originally served as a watchtower. In 1089, the priory was given to the Cluny order, then the most powerful in Christendom. The monks abandoned the site in 1581, and the church was not refurbished until the 17th century.
