CLOISTER OF THE CORDILLERAS
The association "Les Amis de Casteljaloux" puts its extensive knowledge of Casteljaloux's heritage at the service of an interesting guided tour.
Located opposite the Tourist Office, the Franciscan convent has lived many lives. Destroyed during the Wars of Religion, it was rebuilt in the 17th century before becoming a hospice and hospital. This part of the building is now abandoned. As for the chapel, it's well worth a visit for many reasons, not least the sculpted heads of the Lords of Albret framing the stained-glass windows, and the statues of religious figures, including Saint Vincent de Paul and Sister Catherine Labouré, who was responsible for the miraculous medal of the Virgin Mary.
