CONSERVATOIRE RURAL DE GASCOGNE
The history of agriculture and forestry is evoked through a surprising collection of 350 tractors and machines.
Here is a museum that is out of the ordinary! As true enthusiasts, Christian and Joëlle Castagnet have gathered in huge sheds a collection of more than 350 tractors and forestry machines from all over the world, most of them gleaming. Models of yesteryear, often rare, even very surprising like this yellow tapered Porsche used in the coffee plantations in Brazil. This is one of the curiosities to come and discover and there are many of them because the Conservatoire Rural de Gascogne never stops developing to surprise its visitors! Thus, in the reception room, do not miss the impressive collection of old cameras displayed in large showcases: more than 150 models of different brands and nationalities, some of them more than a century old. Tractors are not the only nuggets on display. The Conservatory has also set up a space dedicated to the traditional activity of gemmage. Very much practiced in the past in the Landes forest, it consists in debarking the pines to harvest their resin. You will learn more about it thanks to photos and the projection of a film. In this same room, old carpentry tools are exposed, but also tools used for other trades and which were used for hay, tobacco, grape harvests, harnesses for animals... Thanks to Christian and Joëlle, it is all the peasant memory which is evoked in this unique place.
