EGLISE SAINT-CHRISTOPHE
Imposing church in red brick, located on the Camino de Santiago in the midst of the bucolic Gers countryside
This massive 13th century church, made of red Toulouse brick, is worth a visit. Located on the Route of Santiago, its imposing structure emerges from the quiet, bucolic landscape of Saint-Christaud. Rebuilt in 1250 by the Antonines of Toulouse to replace the original building dating from 1088, the church is of Romanesque inspiration. Access is through a 14th century stone portal, framed by sculptures. Inside, the nave is divided into three vaulted bays. Note the carved stone keystones and the square oculi above the windows.
