FÊTE DE L'AIL
While Lectoure celebrates its melon, Saint-Clar pays tribute to its white garlic. The cultivation of this plant with its inimitable taste and innumerable virtues remains important for the economy of the canton. Every year, on the third Thursday of August, the town takes on a festive air. The festivities take place in several stages: from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, there is the traditional market in the city center where garlic, but not only, is honored. In the village hall, producers exhibit their garlic braids or real works of art for the most daring. A jury of specialists assess the appearance, firmness, fragrance, color ... all the senses come into play to elect the best garlic producer of the year. Saint-Clar and its white garlic from Lomagne have a protected geographical indication (IGP) and this honor is not to be trifled with. The festival continues under the hall where a "tuna and mouclade" is served to 1,500 guests. A true local tradition, the places are quickly taken and it is necessary to reserve in advance. A beautiful convivial festival which perfectly sums up the spirit of the South-West.
