VENDANGES DE LA SAINT-SYLVESTRE
You are in the Gers. Your dance card is desperately empty for your New Year's Eve celebration. We have the celebration you need: the New Year's Eve harvest. The Pacherenc de Vic-Bilh appellation, which straddles the departments of Gers, Hautes-Pyrénées and Pyrénées-Atlantiques, is the sweet fruit of a late harvest. A few plots are selected every year to be harvested on New Year's Eve. This strange tradition was born from a very early frost in 1991. At the time of the usual harvest, in mid-November, the grapes were not ready. Winegrowers have made the bet to wait until the last days of December... to see. To their surprise, they obtained a very beautiful and perfectly balanced cuvée. Since then, New Year's Eve has been an opportunity to return to the vineyard for the last time of the year and make it a festive moment. The harvest takes place in the last hours of the day and the press is done at night. Viella offers on this occasion animations and concerts, torchlight aperitif and common meal which year after year counts more and more regular customers.
