ÉGLISE SAINT-LÉGER
Church with a tumultuous history, built on an esplanade right on the banks of the Garonne, worth seeing for its 17 religious stained glass windows
Erected on an esplanade right on the banks of the Garonne, the church has had a tumultuous history. Threatened by river erosion, the original 12th-century edifice had to be destroyed some 500 years later and rebuilt. This second church suffered a similar fate. In the second half of the 19th century, a third church was built in the neo-Romanesque style. The plans were designed by Bordeaux architect Gustave Alaux, a disciple of Viollet-le-Duc. Inside, you can admire 17 superb stained-glass windows, each depicting a religious figure.
