HOTEL DE BERNUY
Hotel with high hexagonal staircase, founded thanks to the pastel trade in the century, was among the beautiful private mansions of Toulouse
The Hôtel de Bernuy is better known today as the collège-lycée that houses it, the Lycée Pierre de Fermat. Nevertheless, it was originally one of the most beautiful private mansions in the city, built thanks to the pastel trade in the 16th century. It is possible to admire it from the rue Gambetta, which leads to the Garonne from the Capitole. The pastel trader Jean Bernuy, who became Capitoul in 1533, had this mansion built by Louis Privat in the Renaissance style. Its hexagonal stair tower is one of the highest in the city.
