THE HAMLET OF SAINT-AVIT

Lacapelle-Biron, a splendid medieval hamlet with traditional stone houses and a beautiful Romanesque church.
The hamlet of Saint-Avit is a real curiosity: how has this charming village, an architectural testimony to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, survived the centuries so intact? Is it thanks to its isolation and the natural protection of the valley? The ochre stones of the houses lining the only street are an immediate eye-catcher, as is the charming little church. In August, a major pottery fair brings the village to life. Bernard Palissy, the famous 16th-century ceramist, is said to have been born here. A lovely hamlet to discover.
