THE CLOISTER GARDENS
A peaceful, green religious site in the heart of Marmande, ideal for a short break between two heritage tours.
Leaning against the side of the Notre-Dame church, decorated and sculpted in the French Renaissance style, the cloister (of which only a gallery remains today) was built in 1540, and is a place of great tranquility, except perhaps in summer when concerts are held here. The visit is made all the more pleasant by the presence of a beautiful classical French garden. The size of the box and yew trees planted symmetrically around the pond gives the whole a beautiful impression of harmony and serenity. Benches are available for a short break between visits.
