LA FRESQUE HISTORIQUE
Key dates in Marmande's history during the Middle Ages and Renaissance are depicted on a large fresco, a superb work of art.
Inaugurated in 1994, this magnificent fresco, several metres high and several metres long, required 600,000 tesserae. It covers part of the ramparts of the boulevard Richard Cœur de Lion, along the plaine de la Filhole. It evokes several centuries of history, from the Council of Granon in 673 A.D. to the siege of Marmande in the 16th century by Henri de Navarre (the future King of France Henri IV), whose portrait finishes the fresco.
