LE CARMEL
By becoming the property of the city of Tarbes, the ancient carmelite convent found a second life: it is now one of the most famous contemporary art rooms. Its purse walls are blended with all the audacity and, in this strong place, many of them are exposed where they do not expect. The 150 appointments already presented have allowed you to invite artists such as Ernest Pignon-Ernest, Jean-Paul Chambas, Antonio Segui and to find Joan Miró, Francis Bacon, Sarah Moon or Alberto Giacometti… a bold programming, of a rare quality that is most expected! As a result of the demonstrations, the city was able to acquire works, by gifts of artists or purchases, which constitute an exceptional fund of paintings, photos, prints and sculptures. The contrast between these works and the particular atmosphere of the convent founded in 1870 is simply striking: do not hesitate to discover these 200 m 2 of an island out of time.
