STPR was founded in 1902 as "Stade Ceste". With a promising start as vice-champion of France in 1914, the club rose to the French Championship in the 1950s and to Pro D2 in the 2000s. The club eventually changed its name to Stado Tarbes Pyrénées Rugby, in reference to the club's historic name, the Stadoceste tarbais. Today, it competes in the Nationale 1 league alongside rivals Blagnac, Albi and Dax.
