Also known as La Roque d'Autoire, Château des Anglais is a semi-troglodyte medieval ruin. Construction of the castle, perched on the cliff, was begun in the late 12thcentury by the Baron de Castelnau-Gramat. A century later, it was ceded by the King of France to the King of England, and occupied by mercenaries during the Hundred Years' War, then by Protestants. Abandoned in the 18th century, it was listed as a Monument Historique in 1925. Today, it is a popular destination for hikers and history buffs alike.
