CARTHUSIAN FOUNTAIN
An archaeological site of Roman origin, the fountain which has supplied the city of Cahors with drinking water since the middle of the 19th century
The Carthusian Fountain is an archaeological site of Roman origin. This Vaucluse type resurgence which borders the Lot river was a place of devotion of the Cadourques to Divona, goddess of the waters of Celtic origin, who gave her name to Cahors (Divona Cadurcorum). Occupied in the Middle Ages by a mill ceded to the Carthusian monks, it has provided the town of Cahors with drinking water since the middle of the 19th century. Only part of its underground bed has been explored by divers, who found nearly a thousand Gallo-Roman coins thrown away as ex-voto.
