The Festival of Liars has existed for over forty years. If the event can lend to smile, it is taken very seriously by the inhabitants of Moncrabeau, led by the Académie des Liars. The rules are strict. Before 15 July, the candidates for King of Liars must send their text, a story where menterie mingled with humour while appearing to be true enough to believe it. The exercise is perilous, especially as the texts selected by the jury members will be read before hearing by the candidates at the Festival. The jury members, after having ouï history, will put in a bag a certain amount of salt. It is the author whose fable has garnered the most salt that will be elected for one year King of Liars.

Chaque premier dimanche d’Août, Moncrabeau, à travers son Académie des Menteurs perpétue cette vieille tradition gasconne en organisant le Festival des Menteurs qui voit l’élection et le sacre annuel du « Roi des Menteurs ».
