CHAMPOLLION MUSEUM - THE WRITINGS OF THE WORLD
Museum offering temporary exhibitions throughout the year
Let's take a look at a story that began over 5,000 years ago... It's the history of the world's written word! While the first graphic traces date back some 50,000 years, the history of writing itself takes us back 5,300 years. To understand this fabulous human epic, you've come to the right place! Welcome to the birthplace of Jean-François Champollion, the father of Egyptology and decipherer of hieroglyphics. The Figeac native is world-renowned for having succeeded in deciphering hieroglyphics for the first time: the famous Rosetta Stone, a giant reconstruction of which you can admire in the Place des Écritures, just a stone's throw from the museum. Behind its magnificent façade of copper and glass, with its thousand letters from all over the world, you'll discover collections based on the work of the famous decipherer of hieroglyphics, recounting the fabulous adventure of writing and inviting you on an exciting journey through cultures and eras. To discover this museum, you can opt for a self-guided or guided tour. The guided tour can be adapted to suit your time. You can choose from several themes: Champollion and Egypt; The birth of writing; The museum and its masterpieces; From letter to word: the alphabet revolution. Alternatively, for those in a hurry, there's the 55-minute presto tour, which offers an introduction to the museum and its collections. All tours are truly fascinating!
The Musée Champollion - Les Écritures du Monde offers temporary exhibitions throughout the year. These are sometimes part of a national event, or are the initiative of the museum team. The subjects are wide-ranging and specific, allowing visitors to discover unusual facets of a particular field. Whether it's ancient, prehistoric or contemporary art, from here or elsewhere, this is the richness of writing in all its forms. Lovers of the museum will always have a good reason to come back...
Numerous events for young and old are organized throughout the year. For each school vacation, the Musée Champollion organizes themed tours for children, game tours, workshop tours, family tours... Or simply guided or self-guided tours on reservation. A rich program!

Une entrée à 5€ , ce qui est vraiment donné vu la qualité de la visite.
