LARROQUE-TOIRAC CASTLE
This castle clinging to the side of a cliff has retained its medieval defensive system
The castle of Larroque-Toirac hanging on the cliffside, to which vast underground passages lead, has preserved its medieval defensive system. Taken several times by the English and raised from its ruins in the 14th century under Louis XI, this very picturesque castle dominates the Lot valley. Its keep, once 30 metres high, was reduced to 8 metres in 1793. What strikes you is a thin and very high 7-storey turret topped with machicolations.
