LE SENTIER D’INTERPRÉTATION DU FRAU
A signposted trail where you can take part in health and fitness exercises.
This forest takes its name from the Latin fraus, meaning "deception", as it was once a den of bandits. In 1200, its grounds were cleared by the monks of Dégagnazès to drive out the bandits. It was transformed into a heather landscape used for the roofing of the lodges - shepherd's huts. The proposed circuit leaves to discover the local environment in ten stages. The trail starts in front of the reconstitution of a lodge (a plant shelter), then it passes in front of the giant of the Frau, - a 10-metre-high century-old juniper tree - and then in front of the ruins of the Toun house - named after a woman who lived there, alone, until 1919. The following stations evoke forestry, the artisanal exploitation of iron ore, dragonflies, birds of prey, water lilies and the evolution of the moorland. The more sporty can continue with the health trail on which there are 15 exercise stations to be done at your own pace, explained by small wooden panels. Picnic areas are also judiciously placed here and there. It's a short walk that's very easy to do with the children, who will find what they want thanks to a little mascot that can be spotted on the markers. 2.5 km of path to be discovered along a moor with heather and gorse, ecological reservoir of this place. Documentation can be downloaded from the Lot Tourisme website to learn even more! One hour for the complete tour. Easy walk.
