Built between 1930 and 1935, this is one of the most imposing furnaces on the Maginot Line at Lembach. 4km of galleries 30m below ground.

Built between 1930 and 1935, this structure, whose name comes from an old lime kiln built nearby, is one of the most imposing of the Maginot Line. The four kilometers of galleries go down to 30 meters under the ground. They could accommodate more than six hundred men. Visitors will gradually become familiar with the living conditions of the soldiers who walked the earth before them by visiting their dormitories, their sanitary facilities, their kitchens and their infirmary.

Hochinteressant, wobei das natürlich auch vom Engagement des jeweiligen (ehrenamtlichen) Führers abhängt. Nicht barrierefrei, aber das lässt sich bei militärischen Anlagen nun mal nicht vermeiden. Innen recht kühl, daher auch im Sommer was zum Überziehen mitnehmen. Und ein wenig Kondition braucht man auch, weil die Strecken und Steigungen im Inneren doch wesentlich größer sind, als das von außen den Anschein hat.

Beeindruckende Führung durch dieses riesige Bauwerk. Wieder ein Beispiel französischer Festungs- Kunst.
Trotzdem schön, dass es heute nicht mehr gebraucht wird.
So möge es auch bleiben.
Die Führung ist sehr zu empfehlen!

Une passionnante visite avec le guide Charles, à l intérieur de l ouvrage on peut y voir quelques Panneaux affichages, visite Bien expliqué, on compte env. 2h à 2h30 de visites générale, parking pour les voitures juste devant l ouvrage, les cars/ bus on un park plus bas.
Prix d entrée correct, ouvrage en bon état de conservation, impressionnant petit détails avec les 2 fresques.
