Museum that traces its glorious existence, placed in the context of an era, that of the great expeditions in Albi.
It is so easy to imagine that as a child on the banks of the Tarn, Jean-François Galaup de Lapérouse was already dreaming of the trade winds. Honest man and brilliant sailor, this Albigensian spent his life delivered to the four winds, embarked on superb ships and subjected to the perils of his marine adventures. The Lapérouse Museum retraces his glorious life, placed in the context of an era of great expeditions. In addition to recounting his family life and his voyages, many objects found on the site of his fatal shipwreck in 1788, in Vanikoro, are on display.

Beau petit musée, belle collection sur le navigateur. A découvrir

Musée chaleureux, un peu désuet, mais apparemment il devrait déménagé (et sans doute repensé)

Les horaires annoncées ne sont pas actualisées. Il est recommandé d'aller sur le site officiel du musée. Actuellement du mardi au dimanche de 10h à 12h et de 14h à 17h. Fermé le lundi

Magnifique exposition qui retrace le parcours du navigateur, avec quelques éléments ayant appartenu à son vaisseau, "La boussole", ou au second vaisseau de l'expédition, "L'astrolabe". On apprend aussi les autres campagnes menées par Lapérouse, le Capitaine Cook et d'autres grands navigateurs, ainsi que l'évolution de sa carrière de marin, ayant conduit Louis XVI à lui confier le commandement de l expédition dont il ne reviendra jamais. Passionnant!
