The literary prize Paul Wheat, which is handed over each year to authors at the end of November, was created in 1972 by two occitanistes, Marcel Garrouste, then mayor of Penne-d'Agenais, and Marceau Esquieu, professor of classical letters and Occitan in Villeneuve-sur-Lot. He rewards authors writing in this language while making a tribute to the poet Paul Froment disappeared in 1898.
