OUR LADY OF THE PYRAGUDE SHRINE
The sanctuary of Notre-Dame-de-Peyragude, which dominates the Lot valley, is a highly symbolic place, paying homage to the Virgin.
As early as the year 1000, an oratory paid homage to the Virgin. The first church was destroyed in 1562. The construction of the basilica was spread out from 1898 to 1948. Its Romanesque-Byzantine architecture is a real curiosity which dominates the whole Lot valley. "Peyragude" means "sharp stone": historians suggest that there was already a place of worship here before Christianization.
