Jean Jaurès National Center and Museum in Castres, with temporary exhibitions on various themes on the first floor

Created in the birthplace of Jean Jaurès in 1954, the Jean Jaurès National Center and Museum has occupied a separate space since 1988, inaugurated by François Mitterrand. The second floor retraces the major stages of his life. Thesecond floor offers numerous animations. The third floor allows the consultation of documents related to the man and to the history of the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The first floor presents to the public temporary exhibitions on various themes.

Musée très intéressant.
Nous avons fait une visite guidée très instructive sur la vie de Jean Jaurès ;
Gratuite , pour la journée du patrimoine.
Très bonne présentation des documents.

Dogmatisme quand tu nous tiens!Quelle honte pour la ville qui a vu naître Jaurès d'avoir installé le musée qui lui est consacré dans un bâtiment aussi laid, alors que sa maison natale, ornée d'une simple plaque quasi illisible, aurait été l'endroit idoine! Par ailleurs les discours de Jaurès introuvables pour la plupart dans les librairies ou au musée lui-même...Nul n'est prophète en son pays, cet adage prend tout son sens ici.
Ah j'oubliais: la mairie est de droite. CQFD

Ce musée est très riche en documents d'époque.Il permet de comprendre le cheminement de Jean Jaurès, la grande figure du socialisme.Depuis sa naissance à Castres, jusqu'à son assassinat à la veille de la déclaration de guerre, en 1914, en passant par ses années de professorat de philosophie et son mandat de député de Carmaux. Au Rez-de Chaussée,se succèdent de nombreuses expos de dessins, peintures, affiches, liés à l'histoire récente.
