ABBAYE SAINTE-SCHOLASTIQUE
A Benedictine abbey with guesthouse in Dourgne, offering a perfect setting for a spiritual retreat in silence.
The origins of the Abbey of the Benedictine Sisters of Sainte-Scholastique are intertwined with those of the neighboring Abbey of Saint-Benoît d'En-Calcat, home to a dynamic community of Benedictine monks. Founded in 1880 by Mother Marie Crosnier, the Benedictine community began construction in 1886. In 1893, the first wing was occupied by the first 15 nuns. In 1896, the monasteries became abbeys. In September 1927, the first building was completed and dedicated to Saint Scholastica. The monastery continued to grow, and at the same time was the source of numerous foundations in various countries: in 1921 at Hekelgem in Belgium, in 1927 at Civitelle near Rome, in 1934 at Ozon (today at Pesquié). In 1953, she helped rebuild the monastery at Valognes, then founded the one at Koubri. Finally, in 1957, she helped set up the monastery at La Loyère and in 1963 two new monasteries at Dzobegan and Sadori in Togo. Whether you're a day guest, an individual retreatant, a group, or anyone looking for an environment conducive to spiritual retreat, this monastic setting will meet your expectations while allowing you to join in the community's liturgy. Three accommodation options are available: the new 10-room guesthouse with independent sanitary facilities, the Gazel with 1 or 2-bed rooms and small dormitories, shared toilets and showers, or the camp near the Gazel. Opportunity to take part in workshops organized by the nuns.
