THE ROUND TOWER
The last vestige of the town's fortifications, overlooking the deep ravine of the Naridelle at Navaur.
The Tour des Rondes is the last vestige of Lavaur's fortifications. From its squat mass, it dominates the deep ravine of the Naridelle, a tributary of the Agout. No doubt it was part of the first line of ramparts which, in the early 13th century, impressed the chroniclers of the crusade against the Albigensians. But, as for other fortresses of the county, the treaty of Paris of 1229 imposed on Count Raymond VII of Toulouse to dismantle the walls. This tower has been listed as a historical monument since 1971.
