The Laquière factory is the region's last artisan tannery manufacturer. Its history is a perfect illustration of Mazamet's evolution. Founded in 1856 on the factory road leading up to the Pic de Nore, the town once boasted 300 specialized businesses. The leather industry has suffered a severe decline over the last century. But La Laquière survives thanks to quality work and ancestral know-how. Clothes are made in the workshop adjoining the boutique, where a dozen seamstresses are hard at work.
