CITADELLE DE LAGARDE VIAUR
Former Cathar citadel housing the church of Saint Thomas of Canterbury with its baroque altarpiece, listed as a historical monument
This ancient Cathar citadel was owned by the bishops of Albi. This fortified village was used to guard the Gorges du Viaur during the conflicts of the Cathar period. The fortified village became a border post in the 14th century, and the remains of the ramparts and the fortified bell tower remain. You can admire the church of Saint-Thomas de Canterbury, listed as a Historic Monument, with its baroque altarpiece, its 19th century frescoes and its processional cross made of embossed silver.
