CHURCH OF SAINT SULPICE
Church of Saint-Sulpice where you can admire an impressive bell tower-wall of Gothic type of the Languedoc South culminating at 40 m height
Don't leave the town without having admired the impressive bell-tower-wall (or bell-tower-donjon) of the church! Of Gothic type from the Languedoc South, it culminates at 40 metres high. Its construction, begun in 1381 under the lordship of Gaston Phoebus, was stopped halfway up by the Duke of Berry who did not want the bell tower to exceed his castle. It was only after his disgrace that work was resumed. Raised according to the original plans, the bell tower was completed in 1447. Nowadays, it remains the highest and one of the most beautiful of its kind in the Tarn.
