The Saint-Jean-Baptiste church (14th and 17th centuries), fortified and listed as a Monument Historique, is well worth a visit. It houses a major work of art, a monumental Christ over 5 metres tall, carved from an abalone trunk by the sculptor Ossip Zadkine in 1954, when his workshop was based in Arques. This Christ, suspended by a single arm from an invisible cross, is naked, which shocked many parishioners who, it is said, tried to hide his male attributes...
