DUNE BASTIDE
Bastide of Dunes housing a church of Sainte-Madeleine with a magnificent baroque wooden altarpiece and a gothic nave
On the way down from Donzac on the D30, take a detour to Dunes, with its square of half-timbered houses where Queen Margot pondered the vagaries of her century. The church of Sainte-Madeleine has a magnificent baroque wooden altarpiece and one of the most beautiful Gothic naves in the country. The Occitan hall houses a centre on the history of the country. We recommend a picnic at the foot of the Templar tower. Dunes unfortunately had the "honours" and the horrors of the Das Reich division which perpetrated its crimes in the Limousin, notably at Oradour-sur-Glane.
