LARRAZET ABBEY CASTLE
The Germain valley dominates the Community valley and was built in part on the substructions of a former castle dating back to 1187 and destroyed during the Hundred Years War. On May 20, 1500, Jehan III of Cardailhac asked for a "work lease" to Jean de Massaris de Millac and Antoine de Moissac to build a three-storey tower or "turris" at the current location. In 1572, at the time of the looting of Belleperche abbey by the Huguenots, monks escaped from the massacre at Larrazet castle. This castle was largely looted and destroyed during the Revolution and became national well, was bought in 1791 by Groc, who saved the building by covering it. The architectural interest of this castle lies not only in the flamboyant Gothic style façade and its chimneys, but also in the interior sculptural decoration and in the magnificent arched staircase of warheads which revolves around a central nucleus, according to a new process imported from Italy and used in 1500 at the small Tursi Palace in Rome.
