Marius Coustillières created his own straw hat factory in 1920 in Septfonds, the cradle of the hat making industry. Two generations later, in 1981, Jean-Claude, his grandson, took the path of diversification, focusing on fashion and high-end products. The Coustillières house, a Living Heritage Company, nowadays shapes straw hats, felt castles, caps and fabric headdresses, using methods that have not changed in decades. In addition to perpetuating the know-how of its founder, the company has also preserved the tools of yesteryear: foot and pneumatic presses, aluminium moulds and old sewing machines. Most of the manufacturing steps of hats are still carried out by hand: hot dressing of headwear; sewing of straw braids; dyeing.... Coustillières, which works for haute-couture houses, also offers its own collections - two each year - which are available in a catalogue promoted, always in the traditional way, by a network of sales representatives throughout France.
