ST. VAST'S CHURCH
An opportunity to visit the church of Saint-Vaast, to admire its bell tower which culminates at 83 m, the highest point of the city
The church of Saint-Vaast in Armentières is impressive with its monumental architecture... But don't be fooled by its appearance, because it is not the original church! The first church was built in the 9th century, but was destroyed several times, notably during the bombings of the First World War. The church was finally rebuilt by the famous architect Louis-Marie Cordonnier and impresses today by its dimensions close to those of a cathedral. Its spire reaches 81 m high, which makes it the highest point in the city of Armentières!
