ST. NICHOLAS'S COLLEGE
One of the finest Gothic buildings in the Cambrai diocese, dating from 1201.
The collegiate church of Saint-Nicolas is without doubt one of the most beautiful Gothic buildings in the diocese of Cambrai. The original church dates from 1201, but it was partially destroyed by the troops of Louis XI during the capture of the city in June 1477. It was Louise d'Albret, great-great-aunt of Henry IV, who rebuilt and transformed the church into a collegiate church. Between 1534 and 1550, the building was thoroughly restored. The unity, simplicity and size of the nave make it one of the most beautiful examples of hall churches in France.
